If you haven’t heard yet, The Young Conservatives and the Dan Quiggle Campaign were unfairly put down today on a blog called JaxPoliticsOnline.com, with regards to our last blog post by David C. about our Dan Quiggle campaigning trip.
Click here for the article (look under the section “Ronald Reagan for State Senate”).
First of all, we know that Dan Quiggle is an amazing candidate, and this article is seriously scraping the barrel to find anything negative about him. The article takes an almost ridiculously negative slant on some things in Quiggle’s past, such as his defeat of a $250 million tax increase in the City of Jacksonville. Last I heard, it’s a good thing when citizens pay attention to their local government and get involved to hold politicians accountable!
The negativity continues in our favorite line:
“And, more than 21 years after the former President left office (and 20 years after Quiggle worked at the Reagan Presidential Library), it appears as if Quiggle will to go to any lengths highlight his time with Reagan, despite the fact that he had no hand in shaping Reagan’s agenda during his years in office. As one member of the Young Conservatives blogged, he’ll even break out the Reagan pictures to wow young volunteers and regale them with stories of having attended Reagan’s funeral before letting them play with his dog, Reagan.”
Make of it what you want, but it sure sounds like the article is portraying us as so simple-minded that we’re swayed by some Reagan memorabilia (which was pretty awesome though). Our volunteers did not drive across the state and work 240 hours just to play with Mr. Quiggle’s dog! As young conservatives, each and every one of us have real principles and real ideals that drive us to do what we do. Dan Quiggle embraces our principles like very few candidates for public office do, and that is why we are proud to support him!
The article is ended with a nice sour note in one of the last lines: “With no track record in public office, it’s hard to know how Dan Quiggle would operate as a State Senator.” Wow, there’s obviously a little dislike for Tallahassee outsiders there! Ever heard of a fresh perspective? Why is it a considered a bad thing that Quiggle will be new? From what I’ve seen, it’s often the new, lesser-experienced legislators who bring in the best new ideas and solutions because they can honestly are speak from a citizen’s perspective!
Let’s hope the voters of FL Senate District 8 see through all the rhetoric coming from people afraid of change and new ideas and realize how fortunate they will be to have Dan Quiggle representing them in Tallahassee!
